It does not matter how flexible you are - getting better is the goal.
The physical element of Yoga was established long after the various types of meditation were developed within the yogic culture. The word Yoga etymologically either stems from the Sanskrit root yuj (युज्) ,yoke or yuj samādhau, to concentrate.
Allthough the exercise character of yoga is relatively young given the thousands of years the tradition stems back the aspect is vital.
Originally introduced to enhance the time you can spend sitting and meditating without pain the benefits of yoga for wellbeing in general are compelling.
Choose the right postures to fit your needs
Allthough I consider myself not flexible at all the simple routines of the sun salutation and a combination of one legged postures that I came up with intuitively as warmup for surfing dramatically helped me improve in the sport. Also in everyday life the benefit of painless moving is real liberationfrom suffering.
